CALHOUN COUNTY, Ala. – Eastern Kentucky University’s women’s golf team shot a first round 314 and sits in seventh place at the 14th Annual Chris Banister Gamecock Golf Classic hosted by Jacksonville State University. The Colonels are four shots behind the host team for sixth place. Tennessee-Chattanooga leads after a first round 288.
Freshman Linda Hogberg, in her collegiate debut, leads EKU and stands tied for seventh overall after a first round two-over 74. Sophomore Gabrielle Andersson is one shot behind and tied for 11th.
Three other freshmen are competing for Eastern Kentucky. Alex Schmidt (81) is tied for 38th. Taylor Church (84) is tied for 46th. Lindsey Rankin (86) is tied for 51st.
The Chris Banister Classic is being played at the par-72, 5,998 yard Silver Lakes Golf Course on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail.
Round two will begin with a shotgun start at 1:00 p.m. The Colonels will begin on holes 10 through 14.
