RICHMOND, Ky. – Thanks to its current five-game winning streak, the Eastern Kentucky University football team earned a spot in The Sports Network top-25 Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) poll this week. The Colonels check in at the No. 25 spot.
Eastern Kentucky (6-3, 5-1 OVC) currently sits alone atop the Ohio Valley Conference standings following an improbable 52-48 comeback win over then No. 18 Jacksonville State this past Saturday. The Colonels trailed by 24 points with 7:25 remaining before reeling off four consecutive touchdowns to earn the win. Junior wide receiver
Tyrone Goard caught the game-winning touchdown, a 37-yard reception, with 1:24 remaining. The game finally ended with JSU getting turned back at the Eastern one-yard line.
The Colonels lead the conference and rank 16th nationally in rushing yards per game (210.8). Junior running back
Matt Denham has reached 200 yards rushing in four of the last five games. On defense, Eastern Kentucky sits 14th nationally in turnover margin (+9) and turned three Jacksonville State miscues into 21 points this past weekend.
This is the first time EKU has made The Sports Network’s top-25 poll since Oct. 19, 2009.
Eastern Kentucky returns home to face second place Tennessee Tech on Saturday, Nov. 12. The game, which is part of EKU Athletics Hall of Fame weekend, is set to begin at 1 p.m.
