RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University defensive tackle
Emory Attig was named to the 2011 Sports Network/Fathead.com Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) All-America third team as announced on Monday.
Attig earned the first All-American honor of his career after helping Eastern Kentucky to an at-large berth in the FCS playoffs and a share of the OVC championship. In 12 games, Attig had 60 tackles (25 solo), 9.0 tackles-for-loss, 2.0 sacks, a pass breakup, five quarterback hurries, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. The native of Alpharetta, Ga., also gets the job done in the classroom and in November was named one of the six winners of the prestigious OVC Scholar-Athlete award.
The other OVC players to make the list were – UT Martin punt returner C.J. Estelle (first team), Tennessee Tech wide receiver Tim Benford (second team), Southeast Missouri State linebacker Blake Peiffer (second team), Murray State quarterback Casey Brockman (third team), Tennessee Tech offensive lineman Scott Schweitzer (third team) and Tennessee State linebacker Rico Council (third team).
The Colonels (7-5, 6-2 OVC) earned a share of the 2011 OVC title and advanced to the NCAA FCS playoffs for the 20th time this season. EKU kicks off the 2012 schedule at Purdue on Sept. 1.
