RICHMOND, Ky. – Over the spring and summer, we will be profiling members of the Eastern Kentucky soccer team. Next up: rising sophomore
Kacy Eckley.
Kacy, a biochemistry major from Liberty Township, Ohio, was the only Colonel to start all 18 games last fall. She played a team-high 1,541 minutes at center back. So, suffice it to say, she is a good soccer player.
However, did you know Kacy was, basically, a scratch golfer in her youth? Hear from the two-sport star:
Kacy Eckley: I placed 19
th in the U.S. Kids Golf World Championship when I was 10 years old.
EKUSports: Where was this tournament? And do you remember how many people you competed against?
KE: It was in Pinehurst, North Carolina. I would say there was about 100 people who competed.
ES: Is that where you're from?
KE: No, I'm from Cincinnati.
ES: Could anyone compete in the tournament?
KE: No; you had to qualify to compete.
ES: Do you still golf?
KE: No, not anymore. I live on a golf course, so I just play for fun.
ES: Why didn't you pick up golf? What made you decide to play soccer?
KE: I just like team sports better. I did not like having all the pressure on me, so I like playing with other people.
ES: We're happy you decided to go with soccer!
