RICHMOND, Ky. – Select members of the Eastern Kentucky University tennis teams participated in the ITA Fall Regional Tournaments this past weekend. The men’s team competed in Lexington, Ky., while the women played in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Juniors Svetlana Pimenova and Alexandra Sitnikova represented EKU against the best players in the Southeast. Sitnikova picked up two victories in the qualifying rounds to earn a spot in the main draw consisting of 64 players. From there, Sitnikova fell to Duke’s Melissa Mang in straight sets. Pimenova tallied a three-set victory over North Carolina’s Alex Jurewitz to advance to the round of 32. She then lost to Wake Forest’s Sasha Kulikova, 6-2, 6-0.

On the men’s side, senior Lars Gratzki, junior Mel Segota and freshman Alejandro Das participated in the regional tournament. Das earned a 6-3, 6-3 decision over LSU’s Ryan Lissner to advance to the second round before falling to Samford’s Renan Silveira. Gratzki and Das were involved in a tight opening doubles match, but lost in a tie-breaker to Georgia Southern’s Emmanuel Nkoueleue and Borja Malet.

Both teams have completed fall action and will return to the courts this winter in late January.
