RICHMOND, Ky. – It wasn’t a round of 17-under-par like the Colonels shot in yesterday’s second round of the Colonel Classic, but Eastern Kentucky’s final round 273, 15-under-par, today at Arlington was close. EKU claimed the title with a three-round total of 822, 42 shots under par and 49 shots in front of second place Malone College (871, +7). Eastern’s Phil Hendrickson won the individual title with a three-round total of 199, 17-under-par.
EKU set a number of team and individual records over the last two days. The team’s two-round total of 549 tied a school record. The Colonels’ 54-hole total of 822 beat the previous record of 830 during the 2006-07 season. Hendrickson’s third round 64 tied an EKU record. The senior’s 199 set a new 54-hole record, beating the previous best of 201.
The win was the third for Eastern in four events this fall. The only time the Colonels failed to finish first, they turned in a second place finish.
