BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Host Indiana won all nine matches Friday on the way to a 7-0 victory over the Eastern Kentucky University men’s tennis team. The Hoosiers improve to 3-0 this season while the Colonels fall to 2-1.
Junior Vadzim Ivanis (No. 5) gave Eastern its best shot at winning a match after he split sets with IU’s Michael McCarthy. However, McCarthy held on for a 6-3 triumph in the decisive set. Freshman Alex Das Izquierdo (No. 1) and sophomore Johannes John (No. 4) were also close to forcing a third set, but fell in a tie-breaker situation.
“Even though we lost 7-0 today, I’m encouraged at how much progress we’ve made from the previous meeting with Indiana last January,” EKU head coach Rob Oertel said.
Eastern Kentucky returns home to face #48 Kentucky on Sunday, Jan. 27, in the Greg Adams Tennis Center. Match time is set for 11 a.m.
