RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University men’s tennis team gave #48 Kentucky a tough test, but fell to the Wildcats, 5-1, Sunday morning in the Greg Adams Tennis Center. The Colonels fall to 2-2 with the loss.
The top two singles matches went to a deciding third set only to see UK’s Marcus Sundh (No. 1) and Brad Cox (No. 2) both come away victorious. Freshman Francisco Fontoura (No. 6) tallied Eastern Kentucky’s lone point. With the team outcome already determined, doubles were not played.
“Our confidence has grown tremendously after two tough matches against nationally-ranked teams – Indiana and Kentucky – where we competed very well at every position in the lineup,” EKU head coach Rob Oertel said.
Eastern Kentucky is back in action this Friday, Feb. 1, with two home matches against Chattanooga and Wright State.
