Men's Golf Finishes Second At Samford Intercollegiate

ONEONTA, Ala. – Eastern Kentucky’s men’s golf team posted a second place finish at the Samford Intercollegiate, hosted by Samford University at the Limestone Springs Golf Course in Oneonta, Ala. Four Colonels finished in the top 20. Trey Bowling fired a final round 66 to move from 10th into a tie for second place.

New Orleans overcame a four-shot deficit in the final round to win the tournament. As a team the Colonels shot a one-under-par 863. EKU led a host of Ohio Valley Conference teams that played in the 17-team field. Samford (t-fifth), Murray State (t-fifth), Austin Peay (ninth), Tennessee-Martin (10th), Tennessee Tech (13th), Tennessee State (14th) and Morehead State (t-16th) were the other OVC participants.

Bowling was six-under in the third round and finished six-under for the tournament. After consecutive rounds under-par to start the tournament, Phil Hendrickson posted a 78 in the third round and fell to a tie for ninth. Jesse Massie and Justin Moore each shot one-over in the final round and finished tied for 14th and 16th respectively.

Limestone Springs is a par-72, 6,987-yard course.

The Colonels will be right back in action on Sunday when they begin play in the Pinehurst Intercollegiate in Pinehurst, N.C. Pinehurst is a three-day event.
