Second Straight Ranked Opponent Edges EKU Softball

HONOLULU, Hawai`i – Eastern Kentucky University’s softball team fell to 22nd ranked University of Washington, 4-0, today in the Pepsi Malihini Kipa Aloha Tournament hosted by the University of Hawai`i. The loss was the second straight for the Colonels (9-6) against a ranked opponent. Washington (11-6-1) held EKU to four hits.

The Huskies scored all the runs they would need in the top of the second. Three straight hits to start the inning led to the game’s first run. Alicia Blake followed singles by Morgan Stuart and Ashlyn Watson with a double to left center for a 1-0 lead. Bailey Stenson’s RBI single made it a 3-0 game.

Kalyn Fox allowed just two unearned runs in five and a third innings of work for the Colonels. Junior Chelsea Butler pitched one and two-thirds innings of scoreless relief. Aleah Macon went the distance for Washington, allowing four hits and three walks while striking out nine batters.

Stenson and Marnie Koziol both went 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Huskies. Chanze Patterson, Katie Rolf, Jena Handley and Pam Webber each had one hit for Eastern Kentucky.

EKU fell to No. 15 Hawai`i last night.

The Colonels will play twice on Saturday. At 5 p.m. (ET), Eastern will face Idaho State. The Colonels will get a taste of international competition when they play the Netherlands National Team at 11 p.m. (ET).
