BOX SCORE
RADFORD, Va. – The Eastern Kentucky University women’s soccer team fell at Radford University on Sunday afternoon, 3-0. The Colonels (2-5-1) let the match slip away early, allowing a goal early in the first half and another late in the first half, and could not create enough offense to mount a comeback.
“We’re still a young team,” head coach Lindsay Basalyga said. “Most of our experienced players are on the backline, so every match we’re asking young players to score goals for us. We’re asking young players to win matches.”
In the 12th minute, Radford forward Jackie Cozza took a pass from Laura Culver and fired it in from about 20 yards out. With only six minutes left in the first half, Ashley Johnson redirected a free kick into the net for Radford’s second goal, sending the Highlanders into halftime up 2-0.
Just a minute into the second half, SharDavia Bell finished off the Colonels with Radford’s third goal of the match.
Radford out shot EKU on the day, 16-10.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Stephanie Lynch played the first half and made two saves. Freshman keeper
Amanda Carta replaced Lynch in the second half and made three stops while allowing just one goal.
The Colonels open their OVC schedule on Friday, September 26, as in-state rival Morehead State visits EKU Soccer Field. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
Of the beginning of OVC play later this week, Basalyga said: “Let the fun begin.”
