Taylor Named OVC Player of the Week

Senior Josh Taylor
BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Senior forward Josh Taylor was named Ohio Valley Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week today as announced by the league office.

Taylor, a native of Pittsburgh, Pa., began the week by posting a season-high 21 points at Morehead State on Feb. 17. The 6-6 forward continued to shine offensively on Feb. 20 against Winthrop with a game-high 20 points thanks to netting five three-pointers. He became the 29th Colonel to reach 1,000 career points when he drained his final trifecta of the night with 2:11 remaining. Taylor also paced Eastern with six rebounds in the 77-57 win over Winthrop.

For the season, Taylor is second on the team in scoring (13.7 ppg) and third in the OVC in three-pointers made per game (2.4). The senior needs to step on the floor for one more game to equal the program record for number of games played in an EKU career (124).

The other award winners from this past week were Eastern Illinois junior guard Curry McKinney (Newcomer) and Southeast Missouri guard Marland Smith (Freshman).

Eastern Kentucky (19-10, 10-6 OVC) concludes the regular season this week with two home league games. First up is UT Martin on Thursday, Feb. 25 with a tip time of 7:30 p.m.
