RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University football team concluded its spring season Saturday afternoon at Roy Kidd Stadium with the annual spring game. The defense (Maroon) forced four second half turnovers on the way to a 49-18 victory over the offense (White).
Newcomer Kevin Hamlin came away with two of the turnovers. He intercepted a deflected pass from quarterback Victor Perez, and later scooped up a loose ball and nearly returned the fumble for a touchdown. Defensive back Christian Albertson added an interception while defensive lineman Robert Knowles notched a fumble recovery.
The defense held the offense to just 52 yards rushing and less than two yards per rush.
Linebacker Ichiro Chiba led all Maroon players with seven tackles, two of which were tackles for loss. Fellow linebacker Khiry Maddox chipped in with five stops and two sacks.
The offense scored its first touchdown late in the first half when junior T.J. Pryor hooked up with fellow junior Orlandus Harris for a 55-yard scoring strike. The only other touchdown came midway through the second half when Pryor found paydirt on a two-yard scoring run.
Harris was a bright spot for the offense as the wide receiver posted six catches for 118 yards and a touchdown.
Head coach Dean Hood split the team up into offense (White) and defense (Maroon). The offense earned seven points for a touchdown, three points for a field goal and one point for a change of field position (two first downs without a touchdown or field goal).
The defense earned seven points for a touchdown, four points for a turnover, three points for a three-and-out and two points for a fourth down stop.
