RICHMOND, Ky. – Mike Rose put together quite a basketball career at Eastern Kentucky University.
Â
The 6-4 guard from suburban Chicago was a two-time first team All-OVC selection, and he ranks second all-time in points scored at EKU (1,763). As a sophomore, he led the Colonels to the 2007 OVC Tournament title and to a berth in the NCAA Tournament. As a senior, he led the country in three-point shooting percentage (48.1%).
Â
Somewhere in between,
he had two big dunks against Kenneth Faried and Morehead State in a thrilling rivalry win at McBrayer Arena.
Â
Rose has also put together quite a professional career since leaving EKU. He has played in Turkey, New Zealand, Belgium, Germany, the U.S., Canada and Australia. He was notably named the MVP of the Big V league in Victoria, Australia in 2016. He enters 2018 as a member of the Hume City Broncos in the Big V league.
Â
What have been some of your on-court highlights playing abroad?
Â
Highlights thus far have been making six strait three-pointers while shooting almost 100% from the floor in a game for Melbourne Tigers … getting a standing ovation and a life-sized poster of me on the court while playing in New Zealand … scoring 42 points in a PBL (Premier Basketball League) game in the U.S. … receiving MVP honors in the Big V league in Australia … making the list of top imports in Australian Big V league.Â

What are some cool off-court memories you've made during your travels?
Â
Sightseeing in Australia … going to see the Opera House in Sydney … feeding and petting kangaroos … seeing the Twelve Apostles in Australia was very cool … visiting Istanbul and seeing all the different night markets in Turkey … ordering food in Turkey and having to draw pictures for it was an interesting shock!
Â
What is best part about playing Australia?
Â
For me the best part of playing in Australia is being able to experience their culture … I like the lifestyle, people and vibe … the quality of basketball isn't far from the states as well!Â
Â
What's your fondest memory of your days playing at EKU?
Â
Well, I have so many but I would have to say the biggest one is winning conference and going to the NCAA Tournament! I have many memories of preseason and just the bond I created with my teammates and coaches.Â
Â
What's one thing you hope EKU fans remember you by?
Â
I hope the fans remember me, most of all, for my passion for the game … my ability to play all-around, as well as being a good three-point shooter … I was a player that was determined to get better every chance I got.
