BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Eastern Kentucky University junior midfielder
Lauren Imsande was named the OVC’s Co-Offensive Player of the Week for women’s soccer on Tuesday, the league office announced. Imsande led the Colonels to their first win of the season on Sunday, scoring the game-winner with just 10 minutes remaining in a 2-0 victory at Tennessee-Chattanooga.
Sunday’s match at Chattanooga was a defensive battle for much of its duration. At the 79:13 mark, however, Imsande received a pass from freshman midfielder
Jessica Reed and fired it over the head of the Lady Mocs’ goalkeeper. It was Imsande’s first goal of the season, and her first since her freshman year of 2006.
Imsande’s award marks the first time a Colonel soccer player has received OVC Offensive Player of the Week honors. The Dearborn, Michigan native will share the award this week with Murray State midfielder Rachel Wright.
The Colonels’ win on Sunday improved their record to 1-0-1, the best start in program history. EKU returns to action this Friday, September 5, when they travel west to play at Fresno State. Game time is set for 10:00 p.m.
