DES MOINES, Iowa – Eastern Kentucky University junior
Julie Mathisen improved on her Ohio Valley Conference-best 1,500 meters time with a 4:27.27 on Saturday at the Drake Relays.
Mathisen, the two-time defending OVC mile champion from Askim, Norway, entered the weekend atop the OVC standings in the women's 1,500 meters with a time of 4:28.63, which she ran at the Tennessee Relays on April 9. On Saturday at Drake Stadium, Mathisen finished seventh out of 11 strong competitors with a personal-best 4:27.27.
Mathisen is now ranked first in the OVC in the 1,500 meters and third in the 800 meters (2:09.50). She is one of four Colonels to post a strong performance at Drake this weekend. Senior
Una Britton ran a school-record 35:07.64 in the women's 10,000 meters on Thursday, sophomore
Ambrose Maritim ran an OVC-best 14:02.38 in the men's 5,000 meters on Thursday, and freshman
Carina Schrempf ran an OVC-best 2:07.61 in the women's 800 meters on Friday.
The EKU track and field team will split next weekend between the Kentucky Relays in Lexington and the Payton Jordan Invitational in Stanford, California
