LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University track and field team won five events at the Kentucky Relays on Saturday.
Senior
Anna Reddin got things started with a win in the women's 5,000 meters, recording a personal-best time of 17:16.85. Sophomore
Charlotte Imer was not far behind in second with a time of 17:24.32.
EKU also went 1-2 in the men's 5,000 meters. Senior
Wade Meddles won with a time of 14:25.37, while fellow senior
Sean Vandermosten was second in 14:35.72. Both times are meet records.
While seniors dominated the 5K, freshmen dominated the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Freshman
Ciara Scott won the women's steeplechase with a time 11:22.57. Fellow freshman
Jamaine Coleman followed that up with a win in the men's steeplechase, clocking a time of 9:11.29.
Junior Alena Galertova provided the Colonels' final victory, winning the women's javelin with a toss of 138-4. That is the second-best javelin throw in EKU history.
Freshman

Julie Mathisen also turned in noteworthy performances on Saturday. Schrempf finished second in the women's 400 meters, clocking a personal-best time of 54.01. That is the third-fastest time in school history and fastest since 2003. Mathisen, meanwhile, finished second in the women's 800 meters with a personal-best time of 2:07.68. That is the fourth-fastest time in school history.
In the women's long jump, freshman
Liz Marcinek placed second with a personal-best leap of 18-6. That jump is currently good enough for sixth in the OVC.
The EKU track and field team will split next weekend between the Virginia Grand Prix and Cardinal Twilight before competing at the OVC Outdoor Championships the weekend of May 15-16.
