RICHMOND, Ky. – Preseason Mid-American Conference favorite Akron defeated the Eastern Kentucky University women’s tennis team Saturday morning in the Greg Adams Indoor Tennis Center, 7-0. The Zips improve to 4-0 with the win while the Colonels fall to 1-4.

Senior Anais Hamel (No. 5) was the lone EKU player to win a set Saturday. Hamel won the opening set of her match, but went on to fall in a third set super tie-breaker, 10-0.

“Our players fought hard today and that’s all I can ask of them,” EKU head coach Rob Oertel said. “Akron has a very solid team.”

Eastern Kentucky is right back in action Sunday, Feb. 7, with a home match against West Virginia.
