RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University women’s tennis team kicked off the 2012 indoor season with convincing wins over IUPUI (7-0) and the University of the Cumberlands (6-0).

Freshman Amandine Faouzi made her debut at the No. 1 position and did not drop a single game in either match. Three other freshmen were in the starting line-up Friday – Melissa Gerritsen, Kristina Labeja and Carmen Rodriguez.

“I’m very happy with the scores today considering many of our players had to deal with first match nerves,” EKU head coach Rob Oertel said. “I’m excited about our talent level. This should be a fun season.”

Eastern Kentucky is back in action next Friday, Feb. 3 at Butler.
