RICHMOND, Ky.
– The Eastern Kentucky University women’s basketball team will play its lone exhibition game of the preseason on Friday night as the Lady Colonels welcome Georgetown College to McBrayer Arena for a 7:00 p.m. tipoff.

Expectations are high for EKU entering the 2012-13 season. Head coach Chrissy Roberts’ Lady Colonels were picked by league head coaches to finish second in the Ohio Valley Conference East Division, and they return all five starters from a team from a team that reached the quarterfinals of the conference tournament last year.

One of those returning starters is Preseason All-OVC selection Marie Carpenter, a sharpshooting junior guard who led the team in scoring last year (13.4 ppg) while shooting 41.8 percent from three-point range. Carpenter will have veteran help in the backcourt in the form of senior guards Raechele Gray and Brittany Coles.

Senior forward Alex Jones, a two-time second team All-OVC performer, provides an interior presence for EKU, as does senior center Jade Barber, who was named OVC Newcomer of the Week five times last season despite seeing most of her minutes off the bench.

Georgetown is ranked No. 6 in the Preseason NAIA Women’s Basketball Poll. The Tigers return a pair of high-scoring guards in juniors Kourtney Tyra, a two-time first team All-Mid South Conference performer, and Andrea Howard, who averaged 15 points per game as a sophomore last season.

Senior Devon Golden, junior Lizza Jonas and sophomore Devanny King provide a presence for the Tigers in the paint.

EKU will open the regular season on Friday, Nov. 9 when the Lady Colonels host Miami (Ohio) at McBrayer Arena at 5:30 p.m.

Fans can purchase 2012-13 season tickets by contacting the EKU athletics ticket office at 859-622-2122.
