RICHMOND, Ky. –
Jasmine Stafford of Memphis, Tenn., has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball at Eastern Kentucky University, head coach Chrissy Roberts announced today.

Stafford will join the program this fall after a standout career at Memphis Overton High School.  In four seasons, Stafford helped Overton win 129 games and advance to the Class AAA semifinals four times.

“Jasmine is a strong and athletic guard that has the ability to play all of the guard positions here at EKU,” Roberts said.  “She is a true winner and was an integral part of one of the best high school programs in the state of Tennessee.”

The 5-foot-8 guard earned all-district honors as a junior and a senior.  After averaging 11 points, six assists and five rebounds per game her senior season, Stafford was chosen as the district and region Defensive Player of the Year.  She earned a spot in the Mid-South Senior All-Star Game after leading Overton to a 28-3 record this season.

“Jasmine works extremely hard and is not afraid of doing the little things to ensure success,” said Roberts

Stafford joins a recruiting class that includes Shelly Harper (6-foot-1, F/C), Jasmine Henshaw (6-foot, G/F) and Miranda Maples (6-foot-1, F/C), all of whom signed in November.

Eastern finished the 2011-12 season with a 13-16 record and a 7-9 mark in the Ohio Valley Conference.  All five starters and a total of seven letter winners are expected to return for the 2012-13 season.  Six of those seven will be seniors.
