Former EKU Softball Standout in Athens With Canadian National Team

Former Eastern Kentucky University catcher Kim Sarrazin is currently in Athens, Greece, playing for the Canadian national softball team in the 2004 Summer Olympic Games.

Team Canada has recorded a 2-3 record while in Greece, including a 1-0 extra-inning upset over a Japanese team that is ranked No. 2 in the world. Sarrazin has started three games thus far, twice as the designated player and she was the starting backstop against the United States on Aug. 18. Canada returns to action on Aug. 19 when it faces Australia.

The Eustache, Quebec, native was a four-year member of the EKU softball team from 1997-2000. Sarrazin was named 2000 Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year and earned All-OVC first team honors three consecutive seasons after garnering honorable mention honors following her freshman campaign.

As a senior, she ranked eighth in the OVC in batting average (.309) and was among league leaders in runs scored (29), runs batted in (29), doubles (14), triples (6) and home runs (5).

“This is an incredible accomplishment and a wonderful experience for Kim,” said EKU head coach Jane Worthington. “We were fortunate to have a player of her caliber here and I am absolutely certain that she is representing Eastern Kentucky University in an extremely positive manner in Athens.”
