RICHMOND, Ky. - The 2006 Baseball Alumni Week concluded with the annual baseball game Sunday that saw the 2007 Colonels go on to defeat the Alumni 12-5. The Colonels took the lead in the lead in their half of the first and never trailed throughout the game front of 300 fans at Hughes Field. The game was one of several activities held by the baseball program during the homecoming weekend. In all more than 60 ex-players and coaches attended the festivities.

The Alumni were shut out in their half of the first by All-American Chris Friedrich who struck out the side. The Colonels wasted no time in getting on the board as Tyler Barnett led off with a walk and stole second and scored on a Tony Wells single.

Former Colonel great and OVC player of the year Randy White (85-89) started the game for the Alumni and was replace by Larry Frakes (87-89) who shut the door on a potential big inning. White was saddled with the loss which is something he was not accustomed too since he won eleven games in a row during his Colonel career.

After building a 7-0 lead after four innings of play the Alumni finally got on the board in the top of the fifth when Joe Smith (94-99) hit a bases loaded double scoring former OVC first team members Jonathan Woodard (03-04) and Will Whisenant (02-05) who had reached base after drawing walks to make the score 7-2 after five innings.

But that is as close as it would get as the Colonels put the game out of reached by scoring five runs in the next two innings with the big blast coming of the bat of Dylan McMaine who deposited a 1-1 offering from Shane Billau (98-00) over the right field fence for a two run homer to put the game out of reach.

Earlier in the day former Colonel All-American and current Houston Astros third baseman Neil Sellers (01-04) won the home run hitting contest edging out Eric Anthrop (02-05) and former All-American and OVC player of the year Stephen Carter (03-04).

The Alumni were led by Joe Smith (94-99) who finished the day with two hits and two runs batted in. Woodard, Carter, Andy Polzin (02-05) and former OVC first team player Bryan Stevenson (03-05) each finished with a hit a piece.

The Colonels were led by outfielders Dylan McMaine and Tony Wells who finished with three hits each. Third baseman Frank Krailler and fist baseman Clint Seymour each had two.

The Colonels return to practice next week in preparation for the Colonel Series on October 26-28.
