Korir Named To ESPN the Magazine CoSida Academic All-District Track & Field Team

RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University sophomore Jacob Korir earned a spot on the ESPN the Magazine CoSIDA Academic All-District Track and Field second team for District IV on Wednesday.

Korir earned 2005 cross country All-American honors after finishing 19th at the 2005 NCAA Cross Country Championships with a time of 30:07.1. He also earned 2005 OVC Male Runner of the Year honors after winning at the OVC Championships by nearly 35 seconds.

The Nairobi, Kenya native won the 3,000 meter, 5,000 meter and mile run titles at the 2006 OVC Indoor Championships. Korir then set an EKU outdoor record in the 5,000 meters at the MT. SAC Relays on April 13 with a time of 13:40.14, the third fastest time in the nation this season, before winning the event at the 2006 OVC Outdoor Championships.

Korir is a member of the national academic fraternity Chi Alpha Sigma which honors student-athletes of junior and senior status with a GPA of 3.4 or above and was also named an EKU Scholar Athlete (highest GPA on team).

The CoSIDA Academic All-District and Academic All-America program teams are voted on by members of the organization, and an athlete must have at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA to be eligible.
