Baseball America Names Friedrich as Sixth-Best Prospect for the 2008 MLB Draft

RICHMOND, Ky. – In the latest issue of Baseball America, Eastern Kentucky University junior lefthander Christian Friedrich was named the sixth-best college prospect for the 2008 MLB draft.

The recognition comes in the wake of a solid summer for Friedrich. The Evanston, Ill., native went 4-1 with a 2.68 ERA in seven starts for the Falmouth Commodores of the Cape Cod Baseball Summer League, notching 52 strikeouts in only 37.0 innings of work. The two-time All-OVC selection also started and pitched 5.0 innings of shutout baseball in the second game of the Cape Cod League title series against the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox.

As a sophomore at Eastern, the southpaw led the OVC in ERA (2.09), opposing batting average (.155), strikeouts (101), and strikeouts per nine innings (11.1), a stat that ranked 14th in the nation.

In 2006, Friedrich was named a Freshman All-American by Baseball America following a brilliant rookie campaign that saw him go 10-2 with a 1.98 ERA, while earning honors as the OVC Freshman of the Year and hurling only the fifth no-hitter in school history, and first since 1992, against Morehead State.
