EKU Grabs 3-0 Lead, But Falls 7-6 At UofL

Box Score

LOUISVILLE, Ga. –
A three-run second inning staked the Eastern Kentucky University baseball team to a 3-0 lead, but No. 11 University of Louisville came from behind to capture a 7-6 victory on Tuesday.

TJ Alas, who would finish 4-for-5 with three runs scored, led off the top of the second with a single up the middle.  Kyle Nowlin followed with a walk and the two moved to second and third on a double steal.  With one out, an infield single by Ben Fisher brought Alas home from third.  Nowlin later scored on a wild pitch and Kenny Hostrander's RBI ground out made it a 3-0 game in favor of the visitors.

After the Cardinals went in front 4-3, Nowlin followed a lead-off double by Alas in the fifth with a game-tying RBI double down the left field line.  Run scoring singles by Mike White and Devin Hairston in the bottom half of the inning gave Louisville the lead for good.

A solo home run by Alas in the ninth closed the game to one, but Eastern (4-7) would not get any closer.  It was the junior's fifth home run of the season.

Blake Tiberi led UofL with three hits in three at bats, two runs scored and three RBIs.

EKU is scheduled to begin Ohio Valley Conference play this weekend with a three-game series at Southeast Missouri State.  The series opener is slated for Friday at 4 p.m. ET.
