EKU Men's Golf Opens Season With Third Place Tie At Marshall

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. –
Eastern Kentucky shot two rounds of 7-under on its way to a tie for third place at the season-opening Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational on Monday and Tuesday.
 
The Colonels opened with a 7-under round of 277 on Monday and closed out play on Tuesday with another round of 7-under.  In between, EKU carded a 6-under 278.  The three round total of 832 put Eastern at 20-under for the tournament.
 
Virginia Commonwealth (821) captured the team title by three shots over the University of Dayton (824).  Eastern Michigan (832) tied with Eastern Kentucky for third place.  Wright State (838) was six shots behind in fifth.
 
Senior Billy Basham led Eastern Kentucky and placed eighth overall with a three-round total of 206 (-7).  He started out with a first round 4-under 67 before firing rounds of 71 and 68.
 
Andreas Nielsen and Markus Lindgren tied for 12th with totals of 208 (-5).  Willis Gaer (211) tied for 20th and Tyler Lippert (218) tied for 50th.  Freshman Cade Burdette made his collegiate debut with a 54-hole total of 232.
 
EKU beat host Marshall (6th), William & Mary (7th), Belmont (8th), Wichita State (11th) and Ohio (14th) among others in the field of 16.  The event was contested at the par-71, 6,523-yard course at Guyan Golf and Country Club.
 
The Colonels will be back in action on Saturday when they host the EKU Intercollegiate sponsored by Raising Cane's at the University Club at Arlington.
