ATLANTA, Ga. – Junior
Mackenzie Burdick was named the ASUN Defensive Player of the Week and fifth-year
Lauren Seedlock was named ASUN Goalkeeper of the Week, announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon.
Burdick notched the game-winning goal and her first goal of the season last week in a 1-0 win over Detroit Mercy. The Cincinnati, Ohio native scored a header off a corner kick in the 71st minute, powering the Colonels to what was their second consecutive win. Her goal was the third in her career, tacking on one goal in all three of her years at EKU.
Seedlock proved to be the anchor in both of last week's winning results. The Simpsonville, S.C. native surpassed 100 career saves in the 3-1 win over Illinois-Chicago on Sunday. She earned her first clean sheet with Eastern Kentucky over Detroit Mercy (1-0) last Thursday. The fifth-year has started all six games for the Colonels, tallying 31 saves on the year, which is third-best in the ASUN Conference.
Tuesday's honors are the first weekly awards named in EKU's favor since the 2019 season.
The Colonels open ASUN Conference play starting on Thursday, September 15 at 4:00 p.m. against North Alabama. Three days later, EKU is set for its last match of a six-match home swing when Central Arkansas makes the trip to Richmond on Sunday, September 18 at 1:00 p.m.
