ATLANTA – Eastern Kentucky University's
Mackenzie Burdick was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Defender of the Week after scoring the game winning goal against Bellarmine to conclude the regular season, announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.
Burdick's weekly award is the first of the season for EKU. Last Saturday's goal was the first of the season and fourth in her career for the Cincinnati native.
Tuesday's nod is the third weekly award given to EKU in its time as a member institution in the league. The honor marks Burdick's second time being named to the award in the past two seasons.
EKU soccer is coming off a 1-0 win last time out against the Knights, the win marked the first in program history over the in-state conference rival.
With the win, EKU solidified its fifth place standing in the conference table and will head to Florence, Ala. to take on Queens in the opening round of the ASUN Tournament. EKU has qualified for the tournament in all three of its years in the league.
