CINCINNATI – Weeks after claiming the 2023 Kentucky State Amateur Championship, EKU men's golf head coach
Justin Tereshko qualified for the 123rd U.S. Amateur placing second with a two-round score of 133 (-7) in Monday's USGA U.S. Amateur Qualifier at Kenwood Country Club in Ohio.
Tereshko finished the one-day, two-round event in second place with a score of 133 (-7) just making the seven-under cut. He finished six strokes behind Payne Denman of Murfreesboro, Tenn., both are one of 312 players across the country to make the starting field.
Tereshko ended the day with 11 birdies and 21 pars, totaling par or better in 32-of-36 (89 percent) holes over the event.
The 123rd U.S. Amateur will take place from August 16-20 at Cherry Hills Country Club in Cherry Hills, Colo. Cherry Hills Country Club will be hosting its third U.S. Amateur in course history. The past two winners of the U.S. Amateur at Cherry Hills CC were Steven Fox (2012) and Phil Mickelson (1990).
The U.S. Amateur starting field of 312 players will play 18 holes of stroke play on Aug. 16 and 17, one round on each of the two courses, after which the field will be cut to the low 64 scores. Six rounds of match play begin on Aug. 18 and the championship concludes with a 36-hole championship match on Aug. 20.
The winner of the 123rd U.S. Amateur is exempt into the following year's U.S. Open Championship and exempt from qualifying for the next 10 U.S. Amateur events. The winner will also receive a custom gold medal, custody of the Havemeyer Trophy for one year, and are likely to receive an invitation to the 2024 Masters Tournament.
All five days of the event will be aired on national television, beginning with the Round of 64, Round of 16, and Quarterfinals on the Golf Channel and Peacock from August 16-18. The Semifinals and Championship Match will be aired on the Golf Channel and NBC on the 19th and 20th.
Tickets for the championship are also available for purchase starting at $25 per ticket or $100 for a pack of five.
The USGA is offering individual single-day Gallery tickets and five-packs of Gallery tickets that can be used over multiple days or shared with family and friends. Each individual ticket may be used for any one day of the championship (Monday through Sunday) and will include general admission to the grounds, access to walk the historic course, and access to purchase on-site food/beverages. Monday and Tuesday tickets will provide access to both Cherry Hills and nearby Colorado Golf Club, the stroke-play co-host site.
Juniors aged 17 and under will be granted complimentary gallery admission for any day of the event by visiting the Ticket Office with a ticketed or credentialed adult to receive a hand stamp. There is a maximum of four junior tickets per ticketed or credentialed adult.
