EKU Gets 6-Foot-9 Division II Forward

RICHMOND, Ky. – Asa White, a 6-foot-9 forward, will transfer to Eastern Kentucky University after playing two seasons at NCAA Division II Johnson C. Smith University.

This past season, White averaged 10 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game while shooting 57% from the field.  During White's sophomore season, he stepped behind the 3-point line and connected on 8-of-17 for 47%.  He was also an 82% shooter at the free throw line.

The Raleigh, North Carolina native was the only player in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) to shoot over 55% from the field, 45% from 3-point range, and 80% from the free throw line.

"We're so excited about Asa joining our program," EKU Head Coach A.W. Hamilton said.  "Asa brings more length and athleticism to our front court.  His skill set, combined with his ability to effect shots around rim, fit perfectly in our style of play."

White scored a season-best 22 points at Bluefield State on Jan. 15.  He pulled down a season-high 12 rebounds against Allen on Dec. 11.  White also scored 20 points at Claflin (Feb. 22) and grabbed 10 rebounds against Virginia Union (Nov. 26).

As a freshman in 2023-24, White played in 20 games and started three times.  He averaged 4.3 points and 2.8 rebounds while shooting 53% from the field.  He scored a season-high 18 points at Johnson & Wales-Charlotte on Dec. 2 and totaled a season-best 11 rebounds against Virginia-Lynchburg on Nov. 24.

White played high school basketball on the National Team at Combine Academy in Lincolnton, North Carolina.

White joins a recruiting class that also includes 4-star high school guard Tyler Jackson, former 4-star forward transfer Austin Ball, first team All-Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) guard Amarr Knox, 2023 Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Year forward Jalen Cooper, 2025 Northeast Conference Rookie of the Year and Tournament MVP guard Juan Cranford Jr. and 2025 North Carolina Mr. Basketball finalist guard MJ Williams.

EKU won the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship in 2024 and competed for a second straight league title up until the final weeks of the season.  The Colonels are the only ASUN team to win six or more conference games in each of the past two seasons.  The team's 8-game ASUN winning streak this past season was the longest conference winning streak for the program since winning 12 straight across the 1964-65 and 1965-66 seasons.  Since Hamilton became the head coach, EKU has broken 103 program records.
