| Coach Tom Higgins Tennis Courts |
• The new Tom Higgins Tennis Courts were completed in the spring of 2015. The new facility is now located near the Greg Adams Indoor Tennis Center. There are eight hard courts at the new facility and plans to include lights at a later date.
• The SportMaster surface, produced in Northern Ohio for nearly 40 years, is the only U.S. brand to be classified in all five paces by the International Tennis Federation: slow, medium-slow, medium, medium-fast, fast. Currently, SportMaster is the official playing surface of the Irving Tennis Classic and the Royal Lahaina Challenger (USTA Pro Tour Series tournaments). Finally, SportMaster is proud to be the official playing surface of the USPTA (United States Professional Tennis Association).
• In October 2007, the tennis courts were renamed in honor of the long-time Eastern Kentucky tennis coach who stepped down from the coaching ranks in 2000. Higgins completed 28 seasons as EKU's men's tennis coach and seven as head coach of the Colonels' women's tennis team. During Higgins' tenure at EKU, the Colonels won 339 men's dual matches, ranking him 14th among active Division I coaches in the nation in wins in 2000. Higgins was particularly proud of the fact that during his reign as men's coach, 94 percent of all of his EKU players earned their undergraduate degrees.
