Former Colonel Ryan Wiersma is now in his fourth season as Director of Basketball Operations for Eastern Kentucky.
“Ryan was a great leader for us during his time on the court,” EKU Head Coach Jeff Neubauer said. “We’re fortunate and pleased to have him at his alma mater as the director of basketball operations.”
Wiersma is connected to both of Eastern’s winningest teams. He was a member of the team when the Colonels won a school record 22 games in 2004-05. As a member of the staff, he was part of the team that broke that mark and finished the 2012-13 season with a new record of 25 victories.
After finishing his playing career, Wiersma was an assistant coach at Williams College in 2009-10 where he helped the Ephs finish 30-2 overall and advance to the NCAA Division III national championship game.
The native of Newark, Ohio played in 99 games during his EKU career (2004-09). As a senior in 2008-09, Wiersma started 24 games at forward and finished second on the team with 71 assists.
Wiersma earned his bachelor’s degree in general studies from Eastern in 2009 and is currently working on his master’s degree in sports administration.
