Dale Cowper

Dale Cowper was hired as an assistant coach for throws in July 2023.
 
Cowper came to EKU after spending 17 years at the University of Louisville, including 10 seasons as the Director of the Track and Field and Cross Country programs.
 
Under Cowper, the Cardinal men posted their best finish in ACC history with a third-place finish at the 2023 ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The Louisville men also posted their best-ever indoor track finish in the ACC with a fourth-place finish at the 2023 ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships. In 2022, the Cardinal women had their first-ever NCAA Outdoor National Champion and finished 25th in the NCAA as a team. Cowper led Louisville to 13 top 32 finishes and 28 top 64 finishes in NCAA competitions.
 
During Cowper’s time at Louisville, he coached five individual NCAA champions, six individual NCAA runners-up, 72 All-American performers, 12 conference team championships, and 88 conference champions, including 51 within throwing events.
 
Before Cowper’s coaching career, he competed at Western Michigan, where he was a four-time qualifier for the NCAA Championships.  He earned All-America honors in the weight throw in 2001 and the hammer throw in 2002. Cowper posted two World Athletics top 20 rankings in the weight throw.
 
Cowper and his wife Constance have two sons, Zachary and Logan.
