Jatavia Wright

Jatavia Wright was hired as an assistant coach for jumps, long sprints & hurdles, and multi-events in August 2022.
 

Before coming to EKU, Wright was the Interim Head Coach for the Men and Women's Track & Field and Cross country programs at South Carolina State University. Wright coached jumps, hurdles, and throws and assisted with distance, sprints, and relays.
 

In three seasons as the Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at SC State, Wright had an NCAA Indoor Long Jump All-American, two MEAC Champions, and 15 MEAC All-Conference performances.
 

Wright also spent two seasons at Austin Peay State University as the Assistant Coach, focusing on jumps, multi-events, and throws and she assisted with hurdles. Wright had 16 OVC All-Conference performances, three NCAA East Regional qualifiers, and an OVC Freshman of the Year. 

As an OVC stand-out, Wright competed at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Wright was the first female African-American to earn Division I NCAA All-American status in 2014 in the Triple Jump for Indoor and Outdoor. Wright is a 4x OVC Champion and had 13x OVC All-Conference performances. She was named the 2014 Indoor Female Athlete of the Year, 3x Adidas Athlete of the Week, and 2x NCAA West Regional qualifier. Wright currently holds 4 school records (Pentathlon, Indoor, and Outdoor Triple Jump and Indoor Long Jump) and had six top 5 performances.

After transferring to WKU in 2015, Wright earned four C-USA All-Conference performances, 2x NCAA East Region qualifier, and NCAA Outdoor appearance for the 4x1. She helped WKU win the C-USA Outdoor Championship team title in 2015. Wright also played Softball as a Utility player.

Wright graduated from WKU in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in Communication. Wright received a master’s degree in Intercollegiate Administration in 2018.

Wright has a daughter, Chenani.
