Evan Cox joined the EKU women's golf staff as an assistant coach in the summer of 2023.

In 2024-25, Cox helped the Colonels post seven top-10 finishes.  EKU capped the season with a fifth place performance at the ASUN Championship, its best since placing fourth in 2021-22.

In his first season as an assistant Cox helped EKU to nine top-10 performances.  Rylea Marcum finished the season with a 74.14 season scoring average and earned third team all-conference honors.

"Evan has a great playing resume and a strong passion for coaching and developing players," said head coach Mandy Moore.  "Being from Eastern Kentucky, he understands what we're about at EKU and he is helping make our team better each season."

Cox joined the Colonels after spending two seasons with Transylvania University as an assistant coach for the women's golf team.  He helped the Pioneers to multiple top-3 finishes over the course of the year.  He was elevated to the title of associate head coach during the 2022-23 season.

"I am beyond excited for this opportunity at Eastern Kentucky University," said Cox.  "I believe the sky is the limit for this program, I can't wait to see what we can continue to accomplish."

Prior to his time at Transylvania, Cox spent his junior and senior collegiate seasons at the University of Kentucky.  He appeared in 10 events, helping the team to two tournament championships from 2016-2018.  Cox had a UK career-best tie for seventh in the 2017-18 season opener at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate, posting a 3-round score of 220 (+7) as an individual.

Before his time with UK, Cox played at Virginia Wesleyan and won the 2016 NCAA Division III National Championship.  He was the first national champion in program history after birding the eighth hole in a playoff round at Midvale Country Club.  Following the season, Cox was named First-Team All-America, Old Dominion Athletic Conference Golfer of the Year, and All-ODAC First Team after leading the team with a 72.4 scoring average.

After his freshman season, Cox was named the ODAC Rookie of the Year and an All-ODAC Second Team member, leading the Marlins in scoring average and posting three top-10 finishes, one of which came at the ODAC Championships.  During his time at VWU, Cox placed in the top-25 in over 40 team/individual events.

A native of Ashland, Kentucky, Cox attended Ashland Blazer High School and was named to the 2012 Kentucky All-State Golf Team, All-Region 12 Golf Team, and made the Kentucky State Golf Championship three times.

Cox graduated from Kentucky in 2018 with a bachelor's degree in history.
