Logan Harvey
Logan, a dietetics major, grew up in northern Ohio, where she experienced some pretty wild weather. In fact, she has already lived through two tornadoes.
Logan Harvey: I have been in two tornadoes. One was pretty small and didn't do much damage, but the other happened when I was 15 years old, and it was a big one. It was one to remember.
EKUSports: Where were you during that tornado?
LH: We were at my grandparents' house in West Salem, Ohio, which is about 30 minutes from my hometown of Wadsworth. It was me, my two cousins, my sister, my parents and my grandparents. We all went down to the basement. I didn't see the tornado, but I heard it. It sounded like a train, which is what they always say a tornado sounds like. That's exactly what it sounded like. Then the power went out. It was very scary.
ES: Did it do any damage?
LH: We waited about two hours and then my dad and grandpa went outside and looked around. The house was fine, but my grandpa's barn – which was about the size of a small house – was completely destroyed. I also remember there were two refrigerators that belonged to my grandparents' neighbors that were in the back cornfield. The neighbors lived five miles away.
ES: No one in your family was hurt?
LH: Thankfully, everyone was safe. But my two cousins were pretty shook up, because they're from California and had never seen weather like that before.
ES: Since then, have you been scared of strong storms?
LH: I'm actually more intrigued by them now. I really want to be a stormchaser.
