Starkville, Miss. - The Eastern Kentucky volleyball team saw its eight-match win streak come to an end on Friday night on day one of the Mississippi State/Microtel Classic.
The host Bulldogs hit a season-best .312 for the match and rode 15 kills from Rachel Cooper to a 3-0 victory. Eastern senior
Lesley Aldridge posted a match-high 19 kills, but it was not enough to lead the Colonels (8-2) to the win.
EKU suffered a couple of close losses, fighting to an 18-18 tie in game one before the Bulldogs outscored their opponents 12-3 down the stretch. The Colonels sat tied 24-all in the third stanza before MSU secured the sweep with a 6-2 run.
Sophomore
Jessica Sabath led the Colonels with 15 digs, followed by 12 from freshman
Brittany Nobilio. The Bulldogs used 11 service aces to poush their record to 5-4 on the year.
Eastern returns to action Saturday with back-to-back matches against Memphis (11 a.m.) and Louisiana Tech (1 p.m.).
