RICHMOND, Ky. –Senior Liz Guard tallied a match-high 14 kills in leading the Eastern Kentucky volleyball team to a sweep (30-17, 30-23, 30-19) of Samford on Saturday afternoon at McBrayer Arena. The victory was the Colonels 22nd consecutive home win.

Sophomore Amy Arlinghaus added 13 kills and hit .458 for the Colonels (15-5, 7-1), who held the Bulldogs (6-15,3-5) to an attack percentage of .094. Junior Jessica Sabath registered 12 kills and sophomore Brittany Nobilio a match-high 16 digs for Eastern.

The Colonels came out strong after losing game one yesterday, scoring the first three points on a Bulldog attack error and consecutive kills from Guard and sophomore Shelly George. With the score 8-5, the Colonels went on a 18-6 run, highlighted by three kills from Arlinghaus and two from Guard, to build their largest lead of the game at 15 and eventually take the game by a 13-point margin.

Game two was close most of the way with EKU unable to shake the Bulldogs. The Colonels grabbed a 19-15 lead on an Amanda Wilson block but Samford called a timeout and regrouped, closing the lead to one at 24-23, on a Wilson attack error. The Bulldogs could not climb even though, committing a service error on the next point, and the Colonels then rattled off the last five points on the strength of two Sabath kills.

Eastern dominated game three, hitting a match-high .519, as it coasted to the 11-point victory and its fourth straight win.

The Bulldogs were led by a team-high 12 kills from Sara Sears and a team-high 10 digs from Logan Callaway.

The Colonels travel to take on Tennessee State on Friday, Oct. 21 at 8 p.m.
