Richmond, Ky. - Eastern Kentucky University will recognize 198 student-athletes for earning Colonel Scholar status at halftime of Thursday's men's basketball game against Southeast Missouri.
"I think it speaks volumes about our student-athletes, our coaches, and our support staff that 198 out of approximately 315 student-athletes have achieved a 3.0 grade point average over the last year. Eastern Kentucky has taken great strides to ensure the academic success of its student-athletes, and these numbers show that our plan is working. It's very exciting to see our student-athletes be as successful in the classroom as they have on the field or the court," said interim athletic director Dr. Jake Bell.
The honor is given to any EKU student-athlete who achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or better during the spring 2004 of fall 2004 semesters.
The EKU football team led all programs with 54 Colonel Scholars, followed by 25 from the women's cross country/track and field team. Baseball placed third with 22 honorees, while softball and men's cross country/track and field tied with 16 Colonel Scholars apiece.
Thursday's men's basketball game is scheduled to tip-off at 7:30 p.m. (EST). Below is a list of all 194 Colonel Scholars.
