MOREHEAD, Ky. – Senior Liz Guard tallied 15 kills and sophomore Brittany Nobilio added a match-high 19 digs, as the Eastern Kentucky volleyball team defeated Morehead State, 3-1 (30-26, 30-18, 24-30, 30-28), Wednesday night. EKU won its fourth straight Ohio Valley Conference opener and third consecutive match against the Eagles.
Guard also came away with a career-high nine block assists for the Colonels (8-3, 1-0), who are now on a six-match winning streak. Sophomore Shelly George chipped in with 14 kills, six block assists and seven aces after recording a career-high 19 kills last Saturday night against Marquette.
Nobilio was one of three Colonels with double-digit digs. Junior Jessica Sabath tallied 12 and junior Kelly Jennings 13 in addition to her 43 assists for the setter's third double-double of the season.
Freshman Ashley Doscher led the Eagles (4-11, 0-1) with her second career double-double. Doscher posted a career high 23 kills on a team high .279 hitting percentage while also registering 18 digs.
EKU continues its road trip Friday night, Sept. 23, when it takes on the Golden Eagles of Tennessee Tech at 8 p.m.
