COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Sophomore Brittany Nobilio tallied a match-high 23 digs to lead the Eastern Kentucky volleyball team past Tennessee Tech, 3-0 (30-23, 30-19, 30-19), Friday night.
Nobilio reached double-digit kills for the tenth time this year and sophomore Kelly Jennings notched her second consecutive double-double, registering 10 digs and 23 assists, in the EKU win. The Colonels (9-3, 2-0 OVC) won their seventh straight match and second in a row to open the OVC season. On the offensive front, sophomore Amy Arlinghuas paced Eastern with 13 kills and a match-best .440 attack percentage.
Tennessee Tech (4-8, 0-1) battled in game one, keeping things close and trailing 20-17 before the Colonels used a 10-6 run to post a 30-23 final for the victory. The Golden Eagles outhit EKU with a .333 hitting percentage, but too many miscues down the stretch spelled the difference.
The Golden Eagles regrouped and opened the second game strong, jumping out to a 9-4 lead, but the edge didn't last. EKU outscored Tech 11-3 over the next few minutes to gain control and watched Tennessee Tech make 15 hitting errors as the Colonels claimed a 30-19 win for a two-game lead.
The Colonels maintained a 10-point lead throughout the final game before ending the action with another 30-19 victory.
The Colonels continue their road trip tomorrow afternoon as they take on Lipscomb in a non-conference tilt at 3 p.m.
