JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - Senior Jessica Sabath led the Eastern Kentucky volleyball team with 15 kills as the Colonels suffered a 3-0 loss (23-30, 13-30, 22-30) at Jacksonville State tonight. With the loss, the Colonels fall to 9-12, 2-5 in the Ohio Valley while the Gamecocks remain undefeated in conference play with a 7-0 mark and improve to 13-4.
Sabath was the only Eastern Kentucky player to end the match with double-figure kills and added a team-high 17 digs. Freshman Abbey Blank and senior Kelly Jennings each added 10 digs.
Jacksonville State opened game one with four consecutive points and held a lead for the duration of the game. The Colonels fought back within two points (10-8) off a block from Jennings. However, the Gamecocks responded with an 8-2 scoring run before taking the seven-point win.
In game two, the Gamecocks jumped to a 10-2 lead with five kills and three Colonel attack errors. Jacksonville State took its first double-figure lead at 20-10 and coasted to the win.
Jacksonville State earned the win with an eight-point victory in game three.
Five-time OVC Offensive Player of the Week Abbey Breit led the Gamecocks with 15 kills.
The Colonels face Samford on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
