MARTIN, Tenn. - Senior Jessica Sabath was one of three Eastern Kentucky volleyball players to tally double-figure kills but it wasn't enough as the Colonels fell 3-2 (30-21, 30-22, 29-31, 23-30, 9-15) at UT Martin. The Colonels drop to 9-10, 2-3 in the Ohio Valley Conference while the Skyhawks improve to 14-5, 3-2 in the league.
Sophomore Bridget Mustard tallied 13 kills and junior Brittnay Nobilio led the Colonels with 19 digs, one of four players to record double-figure kills.
Eastern Kentucky held an advantage for the majority of game one, taking a seven-point lead (21-14) off a Sabath kill, before claiming the nine-point victory.
In game two, the Colonels again led from the start and went ahead by 10 (22-12) points following two Skyhawk mistakes.
Game three was back and forth with neither team able to build a substantial lead. Late in the contest, Eastern Kentucky fell behind by four points (29-25) but the Colonels evened the score with four unasnwered points following a kill from senior Denise Grundhoefer, two Skyhawk errors and a service ace from freshman Abbey Blank. UTM closed the game however off back-to-back Colonel attack errors.
The Skyhawks used their momentum from the previous game to force a fifth contest with a seven point victory in game four.
UTM went ahead early in the final set and earned the conference win with consecutive kills from Kathyrn Sprague.
