CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Former Eastern Kentucky University baseball All-American Josh Anderson drove in the tying run with an RBI groundout in the 10th inning and then made a spectacular catch in centerfield in the 12th inning to help lead the Corpus Christi Hooks, the AA affiliate of the Houston Astros, to the Texas League title with a 8-7 14-inning victory over the Wichita Wranglers on Friday night.
Shortstop Wade Robinson drilled a single to right-center with two on and one out in the bottom of the 14th inning, plating Jorge Cortes from second with the game-winning run to give the Hooks the victory and its first Texas League title since 1958. The 14 inning epic lasted four hours and 59 minutes.
Anderson was recently named to the Texas League post-season All-Star team and last month Baseball America named Anderson the best baserunner and fastest baserunner in the Texas League. He was also named MVP of the 2006 Texas League mid-season All-Star game.
In his final season at Eastern Kentucky, Anderson led the Colonels to a runner-up finish in the 2003 Ohio Valley Conference Tournament. He was named the OVC Player of the Year and became the school’s first-ever Louisville Slugger First Team All-American after leading the nation with 57 steals.
