Volleyball Claims 3-0 Win

Colonels shut out Tennessee Te

RICHMOND, Ky. - With three players tallying double-figure kills, the Eastern Kentucky volleyball team blanked Tennessee Tech 3-0 (31-29, 30-25, 30-23) tonight at McBrayer Arena. The Colonels record their first OVC win of the season, improving to 7-7, 1-1 in conference play while the Golden Eagles fall to 3-11, 0-1 in the league.

Senior Jessica Sabath led the Colonels with a double-double off 12 kills and 18 digs. Junior Amy Arlinghaus added 16 kills and junior Shelly George ended with 14 while classmate Brittany Nobilio added a season-high 29 digs, her fourth consecutive 20+ dig contest.

Tennessee Tech took a quick lead in game one but the Colonels knotted the score at 10 off a Golden Eagle attack error. Tech responded with four straight points to pull back ahead but Eastern stayed close and took its first lead at 20-19 following consecutive Colonel kills. After six more tie scores, Eastern Kentucky captured the first set by two points with a kill from Sabath.

In game two, Eastern Kentucky built a commanding 16-9 lead off a 10-2 scoring run, highlighted by three Arlinghaus kills. Tennessee Tech fought back within one point (20-19) before Eastern widened the gap off four Tech mistakes and earned the five-point victory.

Eastern jumped to a 4-0 lead in game three but Tech twice built its own four-point lead. The Colonels evened the score at 15 and held onto the lead for the duration of the contest before scoring five of the final seven points to take the match.

Amanda Lindgren led the visitors with 12 kills and two Golden Eagles tallied double-figure kills.
