Jessica Sabath leads Colonels

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - Senior Jessica Sabath led the Eastern Kentucky volleyball team with 10 kills this afternoon as the Colonels suffered a 3-0 (30-24, 30-20, 30-27) loss to East Tennessee State. The Colonels fall to 8-8 while the Lady Bucs improve to 11-5.

Sabath hit a team-high .171 percent and added nine digs. Senior Kelly Jennings recorded 32 assists and junior Brittany Nobilio paced the squad with 15 digs.

The Lady Bucs controlled the match from the outset, building an 11-point lead in game one at 24-13, and coasting to a six-point win.

East Tennessee State continued the onslaught in the second game, breaking open a 10-10 game with an 11-3 run and hitting a mammoth .441 in the 10-point victory.

After starting the third and final game on a 3-0 run, the Lady Bucs never trailed, but allowed the Colonels to tie the frame three times. A kill from Bridget Mustard knotted the score at 27 but the Lady Bucs tallied kills of their own on the following two plays and won the match off a Colonel attack error.

Jennifer Sartor and Callie Kiselich led the home team with 13 kills a piece.

The Colonels are back in action on September 29, hosting Southeast Missouri State at 7 p.m.
