MARTIN, Tenn. – Freshman Amanda Fago recorded 24 kills but the Eastern Kentucky University volleyball team fell, 3-1, to Tennessee-Martin on Friday. Game scores were 30-25, 30-27, 25-30 and 30-21. The Colonels fall to 2-18 and 1-9 in Ohio Valley Conference play. The Skyhawks move to 9-11 overall and 3-7 against league teams.
EKU hit below .100 in each of the first two games and Tennessee-Martin built a 2-0 lead. Eastern hit .234 in game three and turned it into a 30-25 victory to cut the deficit to 2-1. The Skyhawks hit .406 in the fourth game and finished off the match.
Fago had just nine attack errors in 61 attempts for a .246 attack percentage. She also added nine digs, an ace and one block. Junior Amanda Wilson added 13 kills. Freshman Kate Hendle totaled a match-high 47 assists and senior Brittany Nobilio finished with 18 digs.
Four Skyhawks recorded double-digit kill totals. Sarah Jett finished with a team-high 14 kills. Lauren Montague, Taylor Noland and Kathryn Sprague posted 13, 12 and 11 kills respectively.
As a team, UTM hit .210 while EKU finished with a .121 attack percentage.
The Colonels will be back in action on Saturday when they face Murray State. The match in Murray, Ky., will begin at 1 p.m.
