EKU Volleyball Concludes 2007 Home Schedule With Match Against 1st Place Morehead State On Tuesday

RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky’s volleyball team will conclude the home portion of its 2007 schedule on Tuesday. The Colonels will host conference leader and rival Morehead State at McBrayer Arena. The match will begin at 7 p.m. Eastern is coming off a 3-0 home win over Tennessee-Martin on Saturday. EKU senior Brittany Nobilio needs 24 digs to move into fourth place on the NCAA career digs list.

The Colonels (5-22, 4-13 OVC) have four wins in their last nine matches and are 3-2 at home over that span.

With three matches left this season, Nobilio needs 24 digs to move into fourth place and 51 digs take over third place on the NCAA career digs list. Nobilio leads the conference and is ranked 10th in the nation with an average of 6.05 digs per game. If she maintains that average over the final three matches of the 2007 season she’d add no less than 54 digs to her current career total of 2,401.

Nobilio has recorded 20 or more digs in six of EKU’s last seven matches and eight of the past 10.

Against Tennessee-Martin, junior Amanda Wilson led all players with 15 kills and hit .379. Freshman Amanda Fago contributed a double-double to the winning cause, finishing with 14 kills and 10 digs. Junior Bridget Mustard finished with 10 kills and committed just one error in 14 attacks for a .643 hitting percentage. Freshman Kate Hendle totaled a match-high 42 assists and added 10 digs.

Wilson leads the Colonels’ offensive attack this season. She has a team-best 355 kills and is tied for fifth in the conference with an average of 3.78 kills per game. She also leads the squad with 73 blocks. Freshmen Leah Nelson and Fago are also key components of the offense. Fago is second on the team with 257 kills and 24 aces. She has recorded six double-doubles (kills & digs) this season. Nelson has 235 kills. Freshman Kate Hendle leads the Colonels with 795 assists and has averaged 12.48 assists per game over Eastern’s last nine matches.

Morehead State (20-9, 14-3 OVC) enters Tuesday’s match sitting atop the OVC standings. The Eagles have won seven of their last eight matches. Ashley Doscher leads MSU with 370 kills and averages 3.63 kills per game. Erin Peak (338) and Kaitlin Craven (310) also have 300+ kills this season. Morehead leads the OVC in hitting percentage, assists and kills.

Eastern Kentucky’s 2007 season ends this weekend with road matches at Samford on Friday and Jacksonville State on Saturday.
