RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team takes on its second MAC opponent of the year Saturday when the Colonels travel to Ball State. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
The Colonels (6-3) scored a season-high 93 points in their most recent outing, a victory over Covenant College on Tuesday. All 11 players that saw action recorded a point and a rebound. Senior
Mike Rose piled up a career-high 33 points while netting 6-of-9 (66.7 percent) three-point attempts. Rose averages 20 points per game, fourth most in the OVC.
Ball State (4-4) dropped a 68-39 decision to #14 Purdue in its most recent game. However, the Cardinals already have one win over an OVC team in 2008-09. BSU defeated Eastern Illinois in the season opener, 72-59. Senior Anthony Newell is the team’s leading scorer (14.8 ppg) and rebounder (10.1 rpg). Eastern Kentucky held Newell to a season-low six points last year.
Eastern Kentucky is 5-0 all-time against Ball State. The Colonels hosted Ball State last year as part of the ESPNU BracketBusters series. This will be EKU’s first trip to Muncie since 1979.
Following the Ball State game, Eastern Kentucky will concentrate on fall semester final exams before traveling to Cincinnati on Dec. 20.
